Translation and Notes:

This somewhat cryptic keertana describes how Sri Krishna saved the life of his beloved devotee Arjuna on three different occasions during the Mahabharata War.

Pallavi

He is Vaasudeva, the master of the entire universe
He is the one who mounted the chariot and held the reins of the horses out of love for his servant.

CharaNas

1.         Look at the visage of the husband of the sister of Rukma for he is the one who made sure that the fire did not touch the his sister’s husband who killed the husband of the sister of the king of Kauravas in front of the father of the father of the elder brother of the husband of the Raakshasi.
(Rukma’s sister is Rukmini. Rukmini’s husband is Krishna. His sister is Subhadra  whose husband is Arjuna. King of Kauravas is Duryodhana. His sister is Dusshala whose husband is Jayadratha or Saindhava. Finally the husband of Raakshasi, Hidimba, is Bhima. His elder brother is Yudhishthira. His father is Yama whose father is Surya, the Sun.)
The verse tells us that Krishna able to prevent Arjuna from entering the fire and kill himself by enabling Arjuna to fulfil his vow of killing Saindhava before sunset. Krishna made this possible by obscuring the Sun momentarily and putting Saindhava off guard and reveal himself. When the Sun reappeared, Saindhava became an easy target of Arjuna.

2.         When Karna shot the vicious serpent arrow at Arjuna, this is the deity who saved him by depressing the ground a little so that the arrow missed its target. (taraNi is the sun; taraNija is the sun’s son, karNa.)

3.         Showing the direction where Shiva resides, Bhagadatta mounted on his powerful elephant (Suprateeka), hurled the mighty Vaishnavaastra, it was the Keshava of Baada who intercepted and took the weapon in his chest and thus lovingly saved his devotee Arjuna.
(Vyomakesha is Shiva. The direction associated with him is North East. This line probably implies that Bhagadatta came from Pragjyotishpur which is in the North East, now called Tezpur (Assam). Baada is the place of birth of Shri Kanakadaasa.)

Note: 1.This song is one of several on Dashaavatara composed by Kanakadaasaru. The ending ‘E’ instead of the usual ‘u’ signifies awe rather than just a statement.
2. For an excellent rendering of this song listen to Raichur Seshagiridas (track #2) on the following link (control+click):
Translation

Pallavi: govinda hari govonda keshava krishna janaardana (Several names of Vishnu)

CharaNas: 1.   Frolic did he as the fish (and, in the next avatar) carried the Mandara mountain on his back; he lived as the great boar (and as the Man-Lion) cleaved the arrogant HiraNyakashipu.
2.         (As Vaamana) He begged for land (and as Parashuraama) he annihilated the Kshatriyas. (As Rama) he aimed the arrow at the ocean (to subdue the Ocean God and permit Rama and his army to cross the ocean. (In Krishnaavataara) the Lotus-eyed one played with the cowherds.
3.         He was born as the son of Vasudeva and destroyed the ogres who were gnashing their teeth (in anger); he trod on the shining Kalinga and sent the tormentors to the abode of Yama.
4.         He touched the body of the ogress Pootana; he sucked on her poisonous breast and pushed away the evil ogress; he looked after the cows and cowherds.
5.         He conquered Tripura by trickery*; He destroyed the Mlecchas and celbrated by riding a horse; He gained supreme knowledge by effort*. Adikeshava of BaaDa (birth place of Kanakadasa) showed grace and favour to devotion. (*In this verse, Kanakadasa seems to be acknowledging both the Puranic and the historic versions of Buddha).

Translation

Open the door and let me serve you, O Hari!
Can’t you hear me although I am shouting?

O Narahari! In Vaikuntha in the ocean of milk, while you were relaxing with Lakshmi on the serpent bed
And the king of elephants called out ‘aadi moola!’ in distress, you came at once to his aid.

O Narahari! When the villain (Hiranyakashipu) with sword in his hand and in great anger roared ‘Where is your Lord?’
And the boy (Prahlaada) prayed for you in sincere devotion, you immediately appeared breaking down the pillar.

You gave a never ending garment to the queen (Draupadi) of Yama’s son
You saved Ajamila at the right moment
O Redeemer of Devotees! No time is inconvenient to You
Lotus-eyed Adikeshava of Kaaginele.
