Translations of Krithitis of Annamayya-The Prapithamaha of Carnatic Music

Translations  of Krithitis of Annamayya-The Prapithamaha  of Carnatic  Music

By
P.R.Ramachander

Tallpaka Annamacharya   lived between 1408   to 1503 and is supposed  to have composed 32000  krithis mostly  in Telugu   and few in Sanskrit and out of them 12000   are  now available to us  .When we know  that Purandara dasa  , the pithamaha of Carnatic music lived   between 1484    to 1564, without any hesitation   we should call  Annamacharya    as  the Prapitha Maha (Great grand father ) of Carnatic music. Most of his songs are  in praise  of Lord Venkidachalapathy   of Thirupathi  . It was   always my dream to get at least a few  of his great krithis   translated in to english ,Some how  I was not  able to do it   and was feeling very bad  about it.
God decided  to help me  .  IN the middle of may   one  Ms Shaila Chandra   contacted me   and said that   one of her   great talents   was translation .She told me she was  from Hyderabad    and I requested   her to help me   to translate  Annammayya Songs  .She agreed   and translations are  daily  pouring from her  .Within these  25  days she has translated  26 songs   and they are available to you  for reading(Some of them you can hear being sung also)
She also runs a  very intellectual   blog called  http://thoughtsaladforyou.blogspot.in/.
May we all  bless her   for the commendable  job of translating the works of  our Prapithamaha
