Jaya Deva’s Gita Govinda   is an immortal  epic poem  which is popularly sing in South India.   Since it is written in a poetic style of eight lines per verse  it is also called   Ashtapadi . The original book   is the story of three characters Krishna, Radha   and her friend. Radha does not understand how to join with Krishna, Efforts are  made on her behalf by her friend. Then Krishna himself comes and joins with Radha Tis bookm has    twenty four sections  and has  explicit  descriptions of several love scenes. Philosophers feel that  in the is story the three  characters  are Paramathma(Krishna)  , Jeevathma (Radha) and Guru (Radha’s friend). The jeevathma   wwants to join with the Paramathma . The Guru teaches and guides   Jeevathma   the method of doing it. When Jeevathma loses   its pride   and selfishness , The Parmathma himself comes and joins with    the Jeevathma.

      The great Vidushi  Smt D.Pattammal   has written 24 poems , (Following the same Raga as the 24 sections of AShta Padi , in a very simple Tamil.  The tamil verses  of this music drama  (Madhava Geetham)  can be found in

1.Invocative prayer to Lord Ganesa

Oh  elder   son of  the lord who carries Ganga on his   tuft.

For getting married to the lass Sita , you bent the Kodanda ,

Oh consort of Lakshmi , who carried out   many sports,

Is not to be seen , Would he have taken a nap,

I would be there  in the sleep of the blue coloured Krishna,

21.The friend advises   Radha as to how to behave properly.

The lily flower  opened , It was possible to see  Arundathi star ,

He waited    with desire   to see  the coming of  the pretty Radha.

Wearing gem studded  ornaments , which were making jingling sounds,

Radha went near  Lord Krishna    with great  love,

The Radha  with thin middle part   showing great shyness,

Came slowly  due to the courage   given by her friend.

23.Radha and Krishna   in the garden

Radha   reached  the home made of climbing points,

And Lord Krishna   fell greatly in love with her.

That pretty lady  became    very shy  and was looking ,

At Krishna   with her   very dear  eyes and became very happy.

Krishna  and Rafdha  swung  in the swing,

After becoming happy they  danced and sung,

And  to Radha  , all whose   thoughts  were only Krishna,

Krishna showed his divine form after  all the maids left.

Krishna and Radha     were   extremely happy,

The  eyes of the Darling Radha    were  looking tired.

Understanding  the thoughts  of the thoughtful Radha,

Krishna told his   request   to her   softly.

After all the friends of Radha have left,

Krishna  played  lot of love sports with Radha,           

And the pretty girl happily   praised  Lord Krishna,

Gave himk billions of salutations.
